Dan joined Northwoods Bird Dogs in 2010 after he retired from a successful career in counseling and other key positions at the federal prison just outside Sandstone, Minnesota. Since 1992, he and his wife Paula have lived in a home in rural Pine County, close neighbors to Betsy and Jerry.
Dan is ideally suited to work with them. He has a life-long interest in the outdoors. From a young age, Dan spent summers as a fishing guide in northern Minnesota where he now owns property. He is an avid hunter of bear, turkey and deer. Dan has a degree in Animal Science and gained much experience when he managed several swine operations after college. And he learned key organizational and people skills during his years at the prison.
Even though Dan has always had dogs, he has a new-found passion for bird dogs and upland hunting. He has bought and trained three English setters (so far) and now, come autumn, is often found in the woods hunting ruffed grouse and woodcock.
